This public notice will be used to fill Medical Occupation positions listed below at the following grade levels.

  • Nurse, GS-0610: Grades GS-05 through GS-15

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

Due to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) process enhancement to use Shared Certificates throughout the Agency, some of the requirements below may differ:

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service ( http://www.sss.gov ).
  • May be subject to a Background/Security Investigation. Security clearance level may differ from the position announced when certificates are shared .
  • CDC participates in the USCIS Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program ( E-Verify ). If selected, CDC will determine your employment eligibility using your social security number.
  • Direct Deposit is required.
  • One-year probationary period may be required.
  • This position may be subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Due to positions being filled at multiple grade levels and locations, you may be subject to initial and random drug testing.

  • Some positions will be filled as permanent or term appointments.
  • This position may be subject to the OGE Financial Disclosure requirements of the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 (P.L. 95-521). CDC inspires public confidence in its trust responsibilities and mission by maintaining high ethical principles. If selected, you may be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450) to determine if a conflict or an appearance of a conflict exists between your financial interest and your prospective position with the agency. If identified, this will be an annual requirement.
  • In accordance with Executive Order 12564 of September 14, 1986, The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is A Drug-Free Federal Workplace. This position may require a Drug Test and be subject to Random Drug Testing. The position may require the submission of a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and be subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing upon hiring. If required to submit to urinalysis, the appointment to the position will be contingent upon a negative test result.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • EDUCATION: Graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. See Education section.
  • Foreign Nursing School Degree: See Education section.
  • Advanced Practice Nurse Positions (APN): Graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. See Education section.
  • LICENSURE : Passed the National Council Licensure Examination & possess a current, active, full, & unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
  • ADDITIONAL LICENSE REQUIREMENTS FOR ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSE POSITIONS: Licensed or registered by a State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory in the clinical specialty required by the position.
  • EXPERIENCE: Must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, & abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Positions at GS-9 & above may require experience in a specialty area. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR GS-05 & ABOVE:
  • GS-05:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing with no experience OR
  • Diploma/associate degree in professional nursing & 1 year of professional nursing experience
  • GS-07:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing & eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing & 1 year of professional nursing experience (GS-5 equivalent) OR
  • Diploma/associate degree in professional nursing & 2 years of professional nursing experience OR
  • Completion of at least 1 year of graduate education in a professional nursing program
  • GS-09:
  • Master's degree in professional nursing OR
  • At least 1 year of professional nursing experience (GS-7 equivalent) & possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program
  • GS-11:
  • PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing program or related medical science field; OR
  • At least 1 year of professional nursing experience (GS-9 equivalent) & possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing program
  • GS-12 & above:
  • In addition to the mandatory license & education described above, applicants must have at least 1 year of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level

Education

A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required. An official transcript will be required if you are selected. A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.   • FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. Nurse Education/Degree Requirements:

  • A graduate/higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs , Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education , or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
  • Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
  • Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate/higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise/specialty indicated by the position.

Additional information

The salary listed is Rest of U.S. (RUS). Locality pay will be adjusted to reflect location after selection. If selected, you will be required to sign a Workplace Flexibilities Agreement. Find more information on locality and pay scales

  • Salary may be adjusted to include a Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) of 1.69% for Anchorage, Alaska, 8.90% for Honolulu, Hawaii, and 2.63% for Puerto Rico.
