About the team

We are seeking an experienced Senior Trust & Safety Investigator with a proven track record in strategic and thorough investigations who can write comprehensive detail-oriented reports that vividly describe the facts of the cases.

In this role, you will be responsible for executing complex investigations critical to ensuring the safety and security of the Turo community and marketplace. The ideal candidate excels with intuitive and results-oriented investigative skills, a keen understanding of border-related crimes, and is able to leverage global law enforcement contacts when needed.

Your primary functions will be two-fold: to investigate assigned risk-related cases including vehicle crimes and fraudulent activities, and liaise with law enforcement agencies and prosecutors in the furtherance of our investigations. We look for candidates with superb judgment, strong interview and communication skills, and a desire to help us build a best-in-class Trust & Safety Investigations team at Turo.

What you will do

  • Lead and manage the investigation of complex auto theft cases, including those with ties to cross-border activities, utilizing advanced investigative techniques, relationships, and tools to uncover and dismantle sophisticated theft operations.

  • Develop strategies and recommend actions to address identified trends and emerging threats, particularly in border regions.

  • Partner with internal and external teams to establish and strengthen law enforcement and prosecutorial relationships in existing and emerging markets.

  • Establish strategic plans and objectives with cross-functional leadership teams, including those related to law enforcement engagement.

  • Contribute to the team’s effort to improve investigative practices and outcomes, and share insights and recommendations to enhance overall effectiveness of the investigations group.

  • Embrace and own responsibility for special projects assigned by leadership.

Your profile

  • 8+ years of Law Enforcement experience investigating vehicle crimes, border enforcement, or similar complex cases

  • 7+ years of experience working closely with local, state, federal, and international law enforcement agencies and prosecutors

  • Superb and dynamic investigative, communication, and interpersonal skills with good working knowledge of the applicable state and/or federal criminal statutes

  • Strong presentation skills to brief Trust & Safety leadership, law enforcement, and prosecutors on the case facts of your investigations

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities and projects

  • Highly organized with strong problem-solving skills and effective time management

  • Willing to work outside of normal hours, with strong responsiveness and availability

  • Can quickly adapt to new technology, workflows, and systems: experience with Kustomer, CRM systems, Google Docs, and MS Office preferred; Mac expertise is a plus

  • BA/BS or work equivalent

Bonus if you have

  • 3+ years of experience assigned to an auto theft task force on a full-time basis

  • Previous experience investigating vehicle, organized, and/or transnational crimes

  • Experience testifying in state and federal courts

  • Cross designation as a U.S. Marshal
