Manager, Operations Engineering

As the Manager of Operations Engineering, you will lead the Operations Engineering team responsible for driving Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) initiatives throughout the product development lifecycle. You will oversee the operational aspects of manufacturing our complex electromechanical devices, such as commercial 3D printers, ensuring seamless collaboration with domestic and international contract manufacturers. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our products are designed for high-volume manufacturing while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of Senior Manufacturing Engineers in driving DFM and DFA initiatives for new product introduction (NPI) projects and throughout the phase gate process.
  • Develop and implement strategies for domestic manufacturing operations and establish strong partnerships with international manufacturing partners.
  • Oversee the creation and refinement of work and test instructions, ensuring safety, efficiency, and product quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware, electrical, software engineering, and operations, to achieve project goals and resolve manufacturing challenges.
  • Manage engineering change orders (ECO), assessing their impact on manufacturing processes and driving continuous improvement.
  • Lead the design and optimization of assembly and test fixtures, tooling, and custom machinery.
  • Ensure accurate product data management, revisions, and documentation using PLM software.
  • Drive process improvements and initiatives to enhance manufacturing efficiency, quality, and scalability.
  • Participate in design reviews, prototype builds, and DFM/DFA reviews during the development phase.
  • Support process qualifications, capability studies, and the calibration and testing of hardware and software.
  • Travel domestically and up to 15% internationally to work closely with contract manufacturers and suppliers.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field; MS preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in an electromechanical manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop a team of engineers.
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software, with expertise in PLM software and complex data management.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills, with a detail-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent communication abilities.
  • Technical troubleshooting skills with a focus on manufacturing processes and a passion for continuous improvement.
  • Experience in leading cross-functional projects to completion, from NPI to high-volume production.
  • Familiarity with production best practices such as LEAN, Kaizen, 5S, and Six Sigma.
  • Experience with tool design or tool making for production stamping, plastic injection molding, and/or die-cast tooling.
  • Knowledge of change control systems (EPDM, Github, ERP, and PLM systems) and proficiency in 3D CAD software.
  • Experience with Linux-based PCs and some Python experience is a plus.

As the Manager of Operations Engineering, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our products are manufactured to the highest standards, driving innovation, and efficiency in our manufacturing processes. Your leadership and expertise will be instrumental in shaping the future of our manufacturing operations and contributing to the success of our company.
