Given Cohesity’s role in the rapid adoption and expansion of AI/ML capabilities and uses across organizations, we are heavily investing in building and advocating the responsible use of AI as applied to sensitive data within the enterprise setting. We are seeking to bring in a thought leader and subject matter expert within the legal department to play a key role during this rapidly evolving and transformative era in technology, given the associated regulatory and legal backdrop as it changes in real-time.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced attorney to join the Cohesity in-house Legal team. Reporting directly to the VP of IP&P, you will be the lead IP attorney for all Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) issues. You will be an integral part of our AI/ML compliance team, serving as a subject matter expert on emerging AI/ML trends, regulations and technology. You will support Cohesity’s engineering and business teams as they develop and deploy AI/ML foundation models, tools, and associated data. You will partner closely with our AI product team, Open Source Software (OSS) legal team, Data/privacy experts, and patent teams for AI/ML matters.
HOW YOU’LL SPEND YOUR TIME HERE:
Be responsible for all AI/ML legal issues, coordinating cross-functionally, as well as within legal
Influence product development plans related to legal and compliance use cases that benefit our customers
Collaborate with patent team to implement IP protection strategy for AI/ML innovations
Collaborate with OSS and transactional legal teams to ensure license compliance
Collaborate across legal regarding adjacent contractual, privacy and regulatory implications
Advise/negotiate on AI/ML contractual provisions and create AI/ML playbook provisions
Build processes and tools to scale compliance support for AI/ML products and services
Prepare and provide AI/ML trainings to internal stakeholders
Counsel on legal risk mitigation through technical architecture and product design
Develop positive, strong, and collaborative relationships with multiple cross-functional partners (e.g., Engineering, Product Management, Product Security, Info Sec and other Legal teams) to identify and proactively protect products, projects, and services
Drive special projects, including establishing strategies, guidelines, processes, and procedures, to enable the IP and broader legal team to provide best in class service to its partners
Provide executive roll-up information related to industry trends and risks
Be capable of presenting to executives and Board members along with the CLO and other senior members of legal
WE’D LOVE TO TALK TO YOU IF YOU HAVE MANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
10+ years of legal experience in a law firm and corporate environment
JD degree with excellent academic credentials
Substantive AI/ML technical and legal expertise
Degree in engineering or computer science preferred
Registered Patent attorney with in prior in-house patent experience highly preferred
Open source licensing experience preferred
Passion for AI and learning new areas of technology and evolving IP law
Highly collaborative, patient and capable of finding effective methods to influence diverse groups of people and functions across the company
Creative and analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills that is capable of proposing solutions to IP complex issues
Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to successfully manage multiple simultaneous projects in a fast paced environment
Team oriented mindset with strong ethics and integrity, sound judgment, and ability to concisely identify solutions addressed to multiple needs
Superb written and verbal communication skills for all business levels including executives/board
Disclosure Pursuant to Applicable State Equal Pay Transparency Laws - This position has a starting pay range as listed below. Actual salary depends upon many factors, including a candidate’s skills, qualifications and experience, location, and salary expectations, and therefore a starting salary at the low end, high end, or even above the stated range may be offered. This position may also be eligible for bonus compensation, commission (if in a sales function), and/or equity grants. Additionally, full-time employees are eligible to participate in our comprehensive benefits framework, including health and wellness benefits, vacation, paid holidays and refresh days, 401(k) retirement plan, life and disability insurance coverages, and other benefits the Company may offer from time to time.
Pay Range :
The compensation noted above is based on an annualized hourly rate assuming normal full-time employment.

In-Office Expectations
Cohesity employees who are within a reasonable commute (e.g. within a forty-five (45) minute average travel time) work out of our core offices 2-3 days a week of their choosing.
