Branch Overview

Branch is a leading AI-based lending fintech with 50M+ downloads across India and Africa. We
use alternative data to reach millions of people largely excluded from the financial sector.
Headquartered in Silicon Valley with operations in India, Nigeria and Kenya, Branch is a
for-profit, socially conscious company built for scale and impact. Our mission-driven team —
founded and led by the former CEO of Kiva.org — now spans 400+ employees globally. We are
backed by investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, Visa, and the IFC.

About Lending Lab

Lending Lab is Branch’s internal experimentation engine for new lending products. We are a
small, focused team with a single mandate: find the lending products that will catapult Branch to
the next orbit.
We run fast experiments, set explicit kill metrics before we start, and shut down what doesn’t
work without optimism bias. When something works, it gets rebuilt at scale across Branch’s full
customer base. This is not a place for roadmap management or stakeholder alignment theatre.
It is a place to build, learn, and move.

Job Overview

This is a 0→1 product role that requires genuine technical depth. You will take lending ideas
from “what if” to the first disbursed loan — and you will build most of it yourself.
You’ll write the spec and the first version of the code.
There are no handoffs, no backlogs to inherit, and no engineers to delegate to. You are the
engineer, the builder. You will own the full stack of decisions: define the problem, design the
experience, build the prototype, integrate the APIs, run the experiment, and recommend
whether to scale or kill.
We are not looking for a PM who can dabble in code. We are looking for someone who is
technically strong enough to ship independently — and product-minded enough to know the
experience they want to create. As part of a small focused team, you will help shape the product
ideas and then implement the same. You can assume you will have an army of AI agents if
desired.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate new lending product ideas: research the market, score the opportunity, and
recommend whether to experiment
• Design borrower experiences end-to-end — flows, screens, edge cases, communication
• Build functional prototypes and MVPs using code, AI-assisted tools, or a combination
• Set success metrics and kill metrics before each experiment starts — and honour them
• Run small-cohort experiments, collect data, and write crisp recommendations
• Own the tooling and integrations needed to disburse, track, and collect for each product
• Work with the Lending Lab Head on experiment prioritisation and portfolio decisions

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience with a strong technical foundation — you have writtenproduction code and are comfortable owning a full-stack implementation independently
• You have independently built and shipped something — a product, app, tool, or sideproject with real users. We will ask to see it.
• Strong with modern development tools and AI-assisted coding (Cursor, Lovable, or similar) — you use these to move faster, not as a substitute for engineering depth
• Product instincts to match the technical ability — you can identify a real user problem, design the solution, and know when to stop building
• Comfortable integrating third-party APIs, setting up backend logic, and owning the full borrower journey from frontend to data store
• Comfortable with ambiguity and kill decisions — when data says stop, you stop
• Startup experience strongly preferred — especially if you’ve been an early engineer, a founding engineer, or built your own product
• Experience in fintech or lending is a plus, not a requirement
• Based in Bangalore (remote-first, with occasional in-person when needed)
