Job Title: Product Documentation / Technical Writer

Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced and skilled product documentation manager to join our dynamic team. As a product documentation manager, you will play a crucial role in creating. clear, concise, and comprehensive technical documentation for our products, services, and processes. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical aptitude, and excellent. communication skills, and a proven track record of producing high-quality documentation.

Education

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related disciplines.

Key Accountabilities

Content Creation:

• Develop, write, and edit technical documentation, including user manuals, guides, release notes, FAQs, quick references, blogs, training material, and videos.
• Develop API developer documentation, which typically includes details about API endpoints, request and response formats, authentication methods, error handling, and usage examples.
• Create database technical documentation and detail out the database schemas, and data dictionaries within a database.
• Employ various techniques to create dynamic documentation by utilising automated documentation tools that can generate documentation directly from the source code, comments, or metadata. Tools like Swagger/Open API are a plus.
• Collaborate with product managers, SMEs, and engineers to gather information and ensure the accuracy and completeness of technical content. Documentation Planning.
• Participate in project planning meetings to understand product features, release timelines, and documentation requirements.
• Create documentation plans outlining the scope, schedule, and resources needed for documentation projects.
• Participate in Agile development processes and influence process enhancements based on product needs and improvements. Information Architecture.
• Organise complex technical information into logical and user-friendly structures to enhance usability and accessibility.
• Implement best practices for information architecture and content design.
• Develop and maintain templates for written documentation, ensuring a consistent “look and feel” that meets and adheres to the internal style guide. Review and revision.
• Conduct reviews of documentation for accuracy, clarity, and completeness.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to incorporate feedback and updates. Tool Proficiency:
• Utilise authoring tools, version control systems, and content management.
• Systems to create, manage, and publish documentation. User Feedback Incorporation:
• Actively seek and incorporate feedback from end-users to improve the quality and relevance of documentation.

Qualifications, Experience, and skills

• Proven 5+ years of experience as a product documentation specialist, with a focus on complex technical subjects.
• PMP certification, proven proposal writing experience, and previous stakeholder management skills.
• Exceptional leadership, time management, facilitation, and organisational skills.
• Work closely with the project sponsor, cross-functional teams, and assigned Program Managers to plan and develop scope, deliverables, required resources, work plans, budgets, and timing for initiatives.
• Manage program and project teams for optimal return-on-investment, and coordinate and delegate cross-project initiatives.
• Identify key requirements needed from cross-functional teams and external vendors, and evaluate for interdependencies.
• Develop and manage budget for projects and be accountable for delivering against established business goals/objectives!
• Work with other program managers to identify risks and opportunities across multiple projects within the department.
• Analyse, evaluate, and overcome program risks, and produce program reports for management and stakeholders.
• Experience in a direct client management role (not just working with the tech team offshore).
